  10.           +o Starting with _I_r_i_x _6._5._3, the X server supports the
  11.             AppGroup and Security extensions.  Note that the
  12.             Security extension is off by default, and is enabled by
  13.             the command line argument -_s_e_c_u_r_i_t_y_E_x_t, which can be
  14.             added to the file /usr/lib/X11/xdm/Xservers.  In the
  15.             current implementation, when the Security extension is
  16.             enabled, insecure clients are allowed to access
  17.             resources owned by other insecure clients.

  19.           +o Starting with _I_r_i_x _6._5._3, the X images include a
  20.             Netscape-compatible plugin for execution of X
  21.             applications embedded in web pages. See _m_a_n _l_i_b_x_r_x for

  25.             for the Extended Visuals Information extension, which

  36.             available in the subsystem x_eoe.sw.xfwp.  This
  37.             subsystem is not installed by default.  When installed
  38.             and executed on a firewall system, this proxy can allow
  39.             X clients running on selected hosts outside the
  40.             firewall to communicate with selected X servers inside
  41.             the firewall.  See the _x_f_w_p(_1) man page for more
  42.             information.

  44.           +o Starting with _I_r_i_x _6._5._3, the X proxy manager can be
  45.             configured to be invoked as a daemon on system startup
  46.             by executing "chkconfig proxymngr on". The X proxy

  81.             specified the number of clients which could be

  86.           +o Starting with _I_r_i_x _6._5, the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys
  87.             are ignored by default for keyboard accelerators. This
  88.             default behaviour can be changed by editing the file
  89.             /_u_s_r/_l_i_b/_X_1_1/_x_k_b/_X?-_c_o_n_f_i_g._k_e_y_b_o_a_r_d (where the '?' is
  90.             the display number), and commenting out the line
  91.             starting with _I_g_n_o_r_e_L_o_c_k_M_o_d_s.

  94.             logging in has been changed, such that the X server is
  95.             grabbed until a user logs in. This means that remote
  96.             applications will appear to hang if they attempt to

  98.             behaviour can be altered by changing the _g_r_a_b_S_e_r_v_e_r

  161.             from the X11R5 release or an IRIX 5.2 or IRIX 6.0

  164.             libX11.so.1 shared library will automatically use the
  165.             new X11R6 X locale information.

  167.           +o The PEX extension now supports MPEX line anti-aliasing.
  168.             PEX is compatible with Open3D 2.0 from Digital
  169.             Equipment Corporation, and supports the immediate
  170.             rendering and structure store subsets (but not the
  171.             workstation subset) of the X Consortium PEX 5.1
  172.             protocol.  MPEX is a collection of PEX extensions
  173.             defined by Digital for use with their PHIGS and PEX
  174.             products.

  177.             Input Extension devices.  This support is disabled by

  207.             bitmap fonts for the following twelve typefaces: Dutch

  210.             721 Bold, Swiss 721 Bold Italic, Courier 10-Pitch

  213.             fonts.

  215.             Each European font contains 1016 characters. Those
  216.             characters cover ISO8859-1 through ISO8859-10,
  217.             ISO8859-15, and the Minimum European Subset (MES) of
  218.             ISO10646-1 or Unicode 2.0. ISO stands for the
  219.             International Organization for Standardization. For
  220.             more information about MES, please use a web browser to

  223.             In this release of IRIX we have added Euro Symbol to
  224.             European fonts, and the ISO8859-15 character map.

  226.             Swiss 721 fonts are installed when you install the
  227.             subsystem _x__e_o_e._s_w._X_f_o_n_t_s. The rest of the new fonts
  228.             are in the subsystem _x__e_o_e._s_w._X_u_n_i_c_o_d_e_f_o_n_t_s. The
  229.             subsystem _x__e_o_e._s_w._X_f_o_n_t_s is installed by default,
  230.             while the subsystem _x__e_o_e._s_w._X_u_n_i_c_o_d_e_f_o_n_t_s is optional.
  231.             The new fonts are sometimes referred to as Unicode
  232.             fonts, because they include Unicode character maps, and
  233.             you can use Unicode codes to access characters in those
  234.             fonts.

  236.             Unicode fonts are in the CID-keyed format.

  238.           +o A program called _c_i_d_x_f_o_n_t_s is used to build an X-style
  239.             fonts directory for CID-keyed fonts.  See the manual
  240.             page for _c_i_d_x_f_o_n_t_s(_1).  That program is usually run
  241.             automatically when you install or remove CID-keyed
  242.             fonts.  If you manually make changes to CID-keyed
  243.             fonts, you should login as root, and run that program.
